Hello and welcome…my name is Ginger Russell and I am a destination wedding photographer based in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Experience
For 16 years I have lived and worked in Santa Fe and established my photography business here in 2003. Over the years I have photographed hundreds of weddings in northern New Mexico. It’s been a joy and an honor to share in the lives of so many couples as they begin their marriage journey together.
Education
In college I studied fine art and majored in photography at Lamar University where I received my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1999. Photography became my passion and first love when at the age of nineteen I picked up my first manual camera, a Pentax K1000. I had the privilege of studying with two teachers who are leaders in the world of fine art photography, Keith Carter and Osamu James Nakagawa. They taught me the art of composition and how to see and utilize natural, ambient light. I learned to be a photographer in the age of film, but modern digital photography is not much different. Essentially we as photographers are looking for and chasing after optimal light while capturing moments in time before they pass.
Personal
As a native Texan I can tell you that growing up in the South is very much a part of who I am today. Even though I’ve lived in Santa Fe now for a third of my life, being from Southeast Texas is a permanent piece of my identity. I love living in the great Southwest, but I am very much a southerner at heart. In college I met my loving husband, a fellow Texan and artist, and we were married in 2000. We share our cozy Santa Fe home with a very demanding seven pound Yorkie, who keeps us wildly entertained.
